Think Ink FAQ
General questions
Who are Think Ink?
Think Ink was founded in Ipswich over 20 years ago as a Fine Art Printer. It was purchased by Micropress Printers Ltd and incorporated into their Digital Print department. The introduction of online ordering open up the business to a whole new array of customers and Think Ink continues to develop in the competitive printing market.
What do you mean "bleed"?
A portion of your design is trimmed off when it’s cut to final size so your image reaches the very edge of the page and there are no white edges. We require a 3mm bleed on all documents please.
What are copy, trim and bleed marks?
Copy mark – Keep your text within those boundaries.
Trim mark – This is where your document will be trimmed.
Bleed mark – Make sure your document extends to this mark to avoid white space.
What should I look for when I’m checking my proof?
Keep an eye out for garbled or missing text, and check that everything is in the right place. Make sure you thoroughly proof read and spell check your files before you upload them.
What kind of font can I use?
You can use any font you like, as long as it’s embedded or outlined.
What file types can I upload?
PDF, jpg, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel.
What are the different binding styles you offer?
Saddle stitched
(up to approx 72 pages): Two staples pass through the centre of pages.
Perfect PUR bound
(normally 32+ pages): The pages and cover are glued together to create a square spine. Unlike other printers we can go down to a 2mm spine width
How can I make sure my job looks perfect?
Because screens are backlit colour will look different on your screen compared to a printed page. If colour is critical, we can output a calibrated colour proof for you to check.
How do I make sure my print looks sharp?
We recommend using images that are 300dpi (dots per inch). For bitmap images we recommend 800dpi minimum.
Should I upload my PDF as single pages or spreads?
One contiguous file of single pages please.
In perfect binding how wide should the spine margin be?
Approximately 6mm of the page is taken into the spine, so 10mm or greater is ideal.
